Today is Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Reminder to students: Today is a half-day for students and begins student-led conferences and the Celebration of Learning. All students are expected to participate in their designated event and share the amazing work that they have completed over the course of the year. Shout-out to Mr. Prue for all of his work to organize this event!
The Visual Arts Awards and Pottery Sale is TODAY, May 21, from 4-6, running alongside the Celebration of Learning! The Awards Ceremony will happen at 5:30 sharp in the Cafeteria. Students who wish to stay after today's early dismissal can work on their COL or Art display in room 417 until the festivities begin at 4!
TIPS FOR HOW TO EXIST AROUND ART:
1) Do not touch, lean on, or remove any visual art from the displays and boards. If you see any of this happening, please tell an adult immediately.
2) Get CURIOUS!
- PRICES: Student Artists were asked to price their work by giving themselves $20 an hour for the time they spent making the work. Prices may seem high! Instead of making disparaging comments, we invite you to recognize the HARD work that went into these pieces, the bravery it took to share them with you, and a price that represents the often unrecognized VALUE of creative labor.
- CONTENT: Artwork that is easy to understand is easy to enjoy, but art that forces a viewer to dig deeper can inspire negative commentary and confusion: what we recommend is that you ask questions in your mind, like: "I wonder what symbols in this piece relate to the artist?" "I notice this piece seems unfinished: could there have been a reason the artist chose to leave this piece incomplete?" or the FAMOUS comment "My 3-year-old could do this" reframed as: "wow, this artist has removed all of the learned influences of adulthood and has freed themselves back to a place where art making was uninhibited and purely expressive".
See? Getting curious instead of making snap judgments allows all of us to appreciate the labor of love that artmaking is for these students, and even better, critical thinking and questioning are TRANSFERABLE SKILLS!
Please reach out to ANY arts teacher to learn more about the art and the artists. We all hope you enjoy this year's show, and we can't wait to see you at tonight's events!

Families will have an opportunity to share feedback and get information on the NCUHS/NCCC Building Project during the Celebration of Learning and student-led conferences on TODAY. Families can stop in the senior lounge anytime 4-7 pm.
Have a great day, be kind to one another, and engage in your work.
